KERRVILLE, Texas — Project DYNAMO has deployed an elite civilian rescue team to Central Texas in response to deadly flash floods that have claimed at least 67 lives and left dozens missing, including children from summer camps.
Arriving in the hardest-hit areas within hours of the storm, Project DYNAMO is supporting local authorities by conducting high-risk search and rescue operations in rural communities where access has been cut off and traditional resources are overwhelmed.
These are not general volunteers. Project DYNAMO’s search and rescue teams are composed of U.S. military veterans, including former Infantry, Special Forces and Army Rangers. Each operator is trained to function in complex, high-risk environments and brings battlefield experience to civilian rescue missions. Their expertise includes advanced land navigation, small-unit movement through difficult terrain, and the ability to operate under extreme pressure in chaotic or austere conditions. Every member is trained in combat casualty care and medical triage, allowing for immediate trauma response in the field. Rescues are planned and executed with speed, precision and minimal risk to both the civilians and the team.
“Our people are not only brave, they are highly skilled,” said Mario Duarte, president and CEO of Project DYNAMO. “We are bringing military precision to civilian rescue. This is what we were built for.”
This is not the first time Project DYNAMO has answered the call during a major disasters. The organization previously conducted successful civilian rescue operations during Hurricane Ian in Florida, widespread flooding in North Carolina, and the Maui wildfires, extracting families from high-danger areas where access was limited and time was critical.
Founded in 2021, Project DYNAMO has rescued more than 7,000 people worldwide, including from war zones, hurricanes, wildfires and other disaster areas. The nonprofit receives no government funding and relies entirely on private donations.
