Project DYNAMO (“Project DYNAMO,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects the privacy of the people who request our help, support our work, or interact with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information in connection with our websites, forms, social-media channels, communications, fundraising, nonprofit activities, and rescue or assistance work.
A specific form, service, or activity may be subject to additional terms, authorizations, or notices presented at the time of collection. Those materials supplement this Policy and, to the extent of a conflict, apply to that interaction as permitted by law.
Scope
This Policy applies to personal information relating to evacuees and others requesting or receiving assistance; their family members, representatives, sponsors, or other contacts; donors, prospective donors, supporters, volunteers, applicants, event participants, and partners; and users or visitors of our websites, forms, social-media pages, accounts, and other digital services.
Project DYNAMO is responsible for the personal information covered by this Policy. This Policy does not govern the independent privacy practices of third parties we do not control.
Urgent safety notice
Requests for rescue or evacuation may involve serious risks. If using a device or communication method may endanger you or another person, use a safer method if available and tell our team about any restrictions when it is safe to do so.
No transmission or storage system is completely secure. Submit only information reasonably necessary for your interaction with Project DYNAMO.
Information we collect
The information we collect depends on the relationship and circumstances. We may collect the following general categories:
- Identity, contact, and relationship information;
- Assistance, mission, and safety information, which may include sensitive personal information;
- Donation, supporter, volunteer, applicant, and participation information;
- Communications and authorization information;
- Website, social-media, device, and usage information; and
- Administrative, security, legal, and compliance information.
We may receive information directly from you; from another person or organization involved in or communicating about your interaction with us; from service providers and digital platforms; and from public or lawfully available sources.
If you provide information about another person, you represent that you are authorized to do so or reasonably believe the disclosure is necessary to protect life, safety, or vital interests. Do not knowingly provide false, misleading, or malicious information.
How we use information
We may use personal information to:
- provide, administer, and follow up on assistance and other interactions with Project DYNAMO;
- communicate about our activities and opportunities to support our work;
- advance and communicate our nonprofit mission and activities, subject to applicable terms, authorizations, or notices;
- operate, administer, protect, and improve Project DYNAMO and its services; and
- meet legal, safety, security, compliance, recordkeeping, and dispute-resolution needs.
We may also use information for a compatible purpose disclosed at collection or otherwise permitted by law.
Communications
We may use contact information to send operational and organizational communications, including fundraising and supporter messages, through contact channels provided to or used with us. Communications are subject to applicable consent, identification, and opt-out requirements.
You may opt out of non-operational fundraising or promotional communications through the method provided in the communication or by contacting us. An opt-out does not prevent operational, safety, legal, or service-related communications when otherwise permitted. Message and data rates may apply.
How we disclose information
We may disclose personal information, as appropriate and subject to law, to:
- authorized Project DYNAMO personnel and representatives;
- service providers and professional advisers;
- authorities, organizations, and other parties involved in requested assistance or the protection of life, safety, rights, or property;
- other parties as authorized by you or as described in terms or notices applicable to a particular interaction;
- parties involved in legal, regulatory, insurance, compliance, or dispute matters; and
- a successor or participating organization in a restructuring or similar transaction.
We seek to limit disclosures to information reasonably related to the purpose involved. Some recipients may act under their own legal authority or privacy practices.
Sale and targeted advertising
Project DYNAMO does not sell personal information for monetary consideration or disclose rescue-case information to third parties for their independent targeted advertising. If applicable law treats another activity as a sale or sharing subject to an opt-out right, we will provide the notice and choice required by that law.
Legal bases
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, our basis depends on the context and may include a request or contractual relationship, consent or authorization, protection of vital interests, our legitimate interests when not overridden by individual rights, compliance with legal obligations, legal claims, or another basis permitted by law. We process sensitive personal information only when an additional lawful condition applies where required.Where we rely on consent, it may be withdrawn as provided by law. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal, and another lawful basis may permit continued processing.
International processing
Project DYNAMO is based in the United States and works across national borders. Personal information may be processed in the United States or another country whose privacy laws differ from those where the information was collected.
Cross-border processing and transfers are conducted as permitted by applicable law, including through a recognized transfer mechanism or an available legal ground or exception where required.
Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as otherwise permitted or required by law. Retention depends on the nature and sensitivity of the information, the relationship or activity involved, legal and recordkeeping obligations, safety considerations, and the need to establish or protect rights.
Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained where it no longer reasonably identifies a person.
Children, vulnerable persons, and representatives
Requests may concern children, people in vulnerable circumstances, or persons who cannot safely provide information or consent. We handle their information with heightened care and seek legally valid authorization when required and reasonably feasible.
When prior authorization cannot reasonably be obtained, we may process information as permitted by law to protect life, safety, or vital interests or to meet safeguarding obligations.
Websites, social media, and third-party services
Our websites and digital services may use cookies, embedded forms, and third-party services to operate, process interactions, maintain security, and understand usage. These services may collect information directly and may set their own cookies.
When you interact with Project DYNAMO through a third-party website, social-media service, payment service, or other platform, that provider may process information under its own privacy policy. You can control many cookies through browser settings and, where available, our cookie controls. Where law requires consent or an opt-out mechanism, we will provide the required choice.
Your rights and choices
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of personal information; object to or opt out of certain processing; withdraw consent; or appeal a decision concerning a privacy request. You may also complain to a competent privacy or data-protection authority.

Rights are subject to applicable exceptions and limitations, including the rights and safety of others and legal or evidentiary obligations. We will not unlawfully discriminate against a person for exercising an applicable privacy right.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as our practices or legal obligations change. We will post the revised Policy and update the effective date. We will provide any additional notice required by law.
