Mission Rebuild Nepal and AmCham Nepal request DYNAMO’s assistance as more than 1,200 people are reported dead, over 4,000 remain missing and roughly 75 Americans are unaccounted for
September 6, 2026 — Mission Rebuild Nepal and the American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal have asked Project DYNAMO to support the humanitarian response to catastrophic flooding along the Nepal–Tibet border.
Project DYNAMO is a veteran-led humanitarian rescue organization that has completed more than 800 missions across more than 50 countries and rescued over 8,100 Americans and allies since 2021.
DYNAMO has accepted the requests and is building the mission now.
Mission Rebuild Nepal has delivered disaster relief, reconstruction, healthcare and education programs in Nepal since 2015. Its personnel are currently providing assistance inside affected communities. AmCham Nepal, which represents American businesses operating in the country, will serve as DYNAMO’s local coordinating partner for the response.
Thousands Dead or Missing After Nepal Flood Disaster
The disaster began on August 26, when a massive collapse of rock and glacial ice near the Nepal–Tibet border sent a torrent of water, mud and debris through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.
Nepali authorities report that more than 1,200 people have been killed and over 4,000 remain missing, including nearly 600 foreign nationals. The U.S. State Department is tracking roughly 75 Americans who remain unaccounted for in the cross-border disaster zone.
Entire communities have been destroyed. Roads, bridges, communications infrastructure and power facilities have been swept away, leaving many areas accessible only by air or on foot.
Accounts emerging from the affected region and circulating on social media report that more than 1,000 children survived because they were attending schools in the hills while the flood devastated the valleys below.
According to those accounts, many of the parents, grandparents and relatives waiting for them did not survive. Children who left home for school may now have no family, no home and, in some cases, no community to return to.
Project DYNAMO Is Building the Response
Working alongside Mission Rebuild Nepal, with AmCham Nepal coordinating locally, DYNAMO is developing a mission to deliver humanitarian assistance into isolated communities, support displaced children and families, and assist Americans and other foreign nationals affected by the disaster.
“Entire communities have been destroyed, thousands of people remain missing, and accounts are emerging of children who survived the flood only to lose the families waiting for them below,” said Mario Duarte, president and CEO of Project DYNAMO. “Mission Rebuild Nepal and AmCham Nepal have asked for our help. We have said yes, and we are mobilizing the support required to respond.”

“The scale of this disaster demands an urgent and coordinated response,” said Ashok Oli of AmCham Nepal. “We are calling on U.S. businesses with operations or local representation in Nepal to support this effort with whatever resources and capabilities they can provide.”
